Sweetwater Lions Club Scholarship Application Requirements

The Sweetwater Lions Club will be awarding a scholarship of ($500 per year) for a period of (2 years) to a Sweetwater High School graduating senior. The student must attend an accredited college, university, or technical school and be enrolled full-time (12 hours) to receive the scholarship.  The recipient must be a resident of Sweetwater School District.

The Lions Club Scholarship will be awarded based on the following criteria:

  1. Community service to school and/or local community (List on Scholarship Service Form)

  2. 500-word essay

  3. School activities/leadership roles

  4. Financial need for assistance (ex. no other significant funds available)

  5. List scholarships received

  6. Honors/Awards Achievements

  7. Recommendations

The following is required:

  1. Transcript of high school credits

  2. GPA of 2.8 or above

The following information must be typed or computer generated:

  1. Letter of recommendation from a teacher in subject matter of major interest

  2. Letter or recommendation from a community leader, clergy or employer

  3. 500-word essay on how community service has influenced your development

  4. Completion of Service Application Form

This essay should include accurate statements regarding the extent of your community service experiences. It should also include financial need, and honors and award achievements in high school. Demonstrate any outstanding community service accomplishments, and describe personal transformation experienced from service work.  Explain why it is important for every person to be involved in some type of service work within the community.

The Sweetwater Lions Club Scholarship Committee may interview final candidate.  Interested students should pick up an application from the Sweetwater High School Office by

March 25, 2019, complete the application and submit it to the Sweetwater High School Office by April 30, 2019.  Applications received after this date will not be considered.  Scholarship recipient will be announced at the awards ceremony on May 9, 2018 at 6:00-7:30p.m.

Sweetwater Rifle and Pistol Club - $1,000 - 1 Award (Deadline: April 24th)

The Club will award a $1000 scholarship to one graduating senior from each of the four Nolan County high schools.

Criteria for awarding the scholarships include, but are not limited to, the following:

• U.S. citizenship

• graduating senior from Sweetwater, Roscoe, Highland, or Blackwell Independent School

Districts academic achievement financial need career plans attendance at an accredited Texas vocational/technical school, college or university by the fall semester after high school graduation

Applicants must submit the enclosed scholarship application and:

• Official high school transcript with GPA and SAT/ACT score(s)

• Two letters of recommendation from someone outside your school.

Statement listing reasons and need for financial assistance, if any

Farrar Ranch Family Scholarship

This scholarship is targeted at an individual planning a career with agriculture, veterinary sciences or ranching . The recipient of this scholarship must be a citizen of Nolan County and a graduating senior at Sweetwater High School, Highland Secondary High School, Blackwell High School or Roscoe Early College Academy. The recipient must be of good character and show a passion for animals and the land.

Award $1,200.00

Taylor Electric Cooperative scholarship - $1,000 - (Deadline: April 5, 2019)

The Taylor Electric Cooperative scholarship program provides $1,000 scholarships to local students each year. Scholarships will be sent directly to the university, college or vocational institution of each student’s choice. Applicants pursuing college and/or vocational-technical degrees will receive equal consideration. The minimum grade point average required for eligibility is 85.

Eligibility:
– Student must be an enrolled high school senior
– Student and parent or legal guardian must live in a permanent residence powered by Taylor Electric Cooperative

Scholarship Applications for 2019 are due April 5!

2019 Scholarship Application:

Len Assante Scholarship Fund - $5,000 – 10 Awards (Deadline: April 15, 2019)

To be eligible for the scholarship a student must:

A) Be a high school senior planning to enroll for classes in the Fall of 2019.

B) Be enrolled in a program that is groundwater industry-related, such as hydrogeology, water resource management, water well construction and supply, geology, etc.

National Dairy Shrine Scholarships - $3,000 - 42 Awards (Deadline: April 15, 2019)

To be eligible for the scholarship a student must:

A) Be a high school senior planning to enter a four-year-college or university with intent to major in Dairy/Animal Science with a Communications emphasis or Agricultural Journalism with a Dairy/Animal Science emphasis.
