Paul S. Mills Scholarship - $1,000 - 20 Awards (Deadline: March 30, 2019)

To be eligible for the scholarship a student must: 

A) Be a full or part-time student enrolled or accepted into an undergraduate college or university program. 

B) Be pursuing a course of study in a financial service field.

Herrman & Herrman - up to $2,500 - (Deadline: December 1, 2019)

This year, students are to enter the contest with an array of options- an essay, song, poem, or infographic. Alongside this, they are to nominate a teacher who inspired their creativity. The winning Texas applicant will receive a $2,500 scholarship, and their teacher will receive $1,000 as well. Three Texas winners will be selected, totaling $5,000 in scholarships!

Big Country Athletic Hall of Fame Scholarship - (Deadline: March 1, 2019)

The Big Country Athletic Hall of Fame began as the AISD Hall of Fame in 1988. The AISD Hall of Fame inducted 10 inaugural members, but was disbanded after two years. Then, in 2002, the Big Country Athletic Hall of Fame began as an effort to honor the outstanding high school athletes and coaches from a nineteen-county area surrounding Abilene. With the blessing of the AISD, the original 10 members of the AISD were included in the new Big Country Hall of Fame.


  • Must be a graduating senior who attended high school in one of the 19 counties listed (Knox, Kent, Stonewall, Haskell, Throckmorton, Scurry, Fisher, Jones, Shackelford, Stephens, Mitchell, Nolan, Taylor, Callahan, Eastland, Runnels, Coleman, Brown, Comanche)

  • Be in the top 25 percent of your graduating class

  • Must have participated as an athlete in varsity high school athletics

  • Applicant must have been enrolled in the high school for three years (including senior year).

Austin Community Foundation - (Deadline: April 8, 2019)

Last year, the Austin Community Foundation granted over 351 scholarships totaling $635,000 to current students. Our easy to use online application has over 100 scholarship opportunities, all with different criteria so more students are eligible for more opportunities. This online application is open to students now until April 8, 2019. 

Students can begin the application by creating an account at They will be prompted to fill out one general application. By completing this application, the student will be auto-matched to scholarship opportunities they qualify for. Some opportunities may require the student to answer additional questions.

 The application does ask for a copy of the student’s transcript, it does not have to be an official copy that is mailed. Students can upload a PDF version instead.

HBC (Higginbotham Bros. & Co.) - $1,000 - 1 Award (Deadline: April 1, 2019)

Scholarship for Excellence Application Requirements

HBC (Higginbotham Bros. & Co.) created the Scholarship for Excellence award program to encourage and assist in the educational pursuits of our community's graduating seniors.

Permissible uses of funds:

Payment of tuition and fees required for enrollment, books, supplies and/or equipment required for courses of instruction at an accredited four-year university, junior college or TEA-approved trade schools that offer an associate degree.

Criteria for applying:

Must be a graduating senior from the Class of 2019.

Must have maintained a minimum 2.50 cumulative grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale. High school counselors must verify and certify the accuracy of the stated GPS by signature and date. (Home school students must provide a copy of transcript from high school level course work.)

Must meet the federal entrance requirements at an accredited four-year university, junior college or TEA approved trade school to which you apply.

Must be enrolled as a full-time student (12-hour minimum).

Total scholarship awarded will be $1,000. HBC will pay $500 for the fall semester upon receipt of voucher, invoices or official letter providing proof of enrollment. The first installment will be made payable to the school's financial aid or business office.

Recipient is required to submit proof of spring enrollment and sustained 2.00 GPA from fall semester to qualify for the remaining $500. Final installment will also be made payable to the school's financial aid or business office.

NOTE: If recipient's cumulative GPA falls below 2.00 or if the recipient fails to register as a full-time student for the spring semester, recipient will be placed on probation for one semester. If probationary issues are not corrected within the following semester, the remaining scholarship funds allotted to that student ($500) will be revoked. If the recipient fails to enroll or register for any course work during the spring semester, then the remaining scholarship funds allotted to that student ($500) will be revoked.

Other Important Information:

  • Applications will be submitted to the selection committee to be graded on the criteria mentioned above.

  • Applications will be accepted no later than 5:00 PM on April 1, 2019.

  • Notification process will begin in May.

Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital - $2,400 - 2 Awards (Deadline: April 1, 2019)

Applicants must be residents of Nolan County and seniors at one of the high schools in the county. Complete the Application Form and return by mail along with the following supporting documents.

  1. A LETTER answering all of the following questions:

    1. Why do you want to be a nurse? How did you originally become interested in nursing as a career?

    2. What kind of nursing work to you plan on doing? Where do you plan to practice nursing (i.e., where and what kind of facility)?

    3. Why do you need scholarship assistance?

    4. Have you applied for or been granted other scholarships? If so, please answer the following:

        • Name of scholarship and/or grant

        • Amount you will receive

        • Which semesters

        • Will these scholarships/grants pay for books and tuition only

  2. TWO LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION At least one on school letterhead from a current or past teacher, counselor or principal. We require that letter(s) of recommendation come from someone who is familiar with your academic record. The second letter may be from another non-family source such as a pastor, scout leader, employer.

  3. A COPY of your most recent TRANSCRIPT. An unofficial transcript is acceptable.

  4. A COPY of the LETTER OF ACCEPTANCE from the college you will be attending.

After you have assembled your application packet to mail to us, be sure to look over this list to verify you have included all the required documents. We also recommend that you make a copy of your complete application packet for your own file. Only complete application packets will be considered. Finalists may be required to have an interview with the selection committee and will be notified of the schedule for the interviews.

Texas Distinguished Young Bobcat Award - $1,000 – 1 Award (Deadline: March 29, 2019)

To be eligible for the scholarship a student must:

A) Student must be classified as a senior at a High School in the state of Texas. B) Student must be planning to attend Texas State University the fall following high school graduation

C) Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.5.
