I teach because I believe God has called me to share the knowledge he has given me, and I desire to change lives through my efforts in the classroom. I love to see the light in the eyes of a student who accomplishes what they once considered an insurmountable task, and know I had at least a small part in that positive change in the student's life. I believe that teaching must address the needs of individual students where they are, and move forward from that point. Anyone can present information, but we must strive to present it in a way which will give the student ownership of the concept and provide the student with a real life application for the material. An outstanding teacher is one who places the needs of the students above personal interests and is willing to dedicate time and energy to see that those needs are met to the best of the teacher's ability, as the world is being changed by improving the quality of life, one student at a time. -- John Cox
