On Saturday, April 14th, Sweetwater High School had four judging teams compete at the Area 2 FFA Career Development Event (CDE) at Texas Tech University in Lubbock. The Poultry Judging Team, Meats Judging Team, and Milk Quality and Products Judging Team all three qualified for state competition, placing 2nd, 3rd and 2nd, respectively. The Livestock Judging team was competitive as well, placing 17th out of 35 teams from our area.

The Milk Quality Team, consisting of Blake Young, Sage Nelsen, Cameryn Jones, and Shelby Sutton, went on to compete at the Texas FFA State CDE at Tarleton State University on Thursday, April 19th. SHS also had a team competing in the first ever Texas FFA State Homesite Evaluation CDE, also at Tarleton on the same day. The Homesite Evaluation team consisted of Matt Kitchens, Andrew Smith, Bobby Soto and Blayne Ferguson. Both teams were very competitive, and did an excellent job representing Sweetwater FFA and Sweetwater ISD.

This past Saturday, April 21st, the Cotton Grading team and Wool Evaluation team competed at the Texas FFA State CDE at Texas Tech University. The Cotton Grading team was made up of Matt Kitchens, Andrew Smith, Cody Chapman and Stephen May. They placed a competitive 7th out of 80 teams from across the state! The Wool Evaluation team consisted of Sage Nelsen, Cameryn Jones, Kyle Lambert and Brandon Hopkins, and they placed 23rd out of 70 teams. Both of these teams were very competitive, and did a great job representing Sweetwater FFA and Sweetwater ISD.

The Meats and Poultry judging teams are gearing up for their state CDE, which will be held on Saturday, May 5th, at Texas A&M University in College Station. The Meats team consists of Kyle Lambert, Sean Morrow, Cody Chapman and Parker Scott. The Poultry team is made up of Leah Warren, Colton Scott, Andrew Smith and Mackensey Hayes. Please wish these teams luck and encourage them as they prepare to represent Sweetwater at State Contest in a couple of weeks!

On Tuesday, May 1st, we will be attending the Lone Wolf District FFA Spring Meeting and Banquet, where Cameryn Jones, Blake Young, and Sean Morrow will be running for positions on the Lone Wolf District FFA Officer team for 2012-2013. Kyle Lambert, who served as a Lone Wolf District FFA Officer this school year, will be running for a spot on the Area 2 FFA Officer team.
