TMSCA students from Sweetwater Middle School recently traveled to San Antonio for the Texas Math and Science Coaches Association State Competition. They competed in Math, Science, Calculator, and Number Sense. There were over 500 students from around the state that competed. While the team did well in Math, Number Sense, and Calculator, in Science they excelled as a team and individuals. The team consisting of Daniel Pena, John Clift, Kilanie Arpin, Chance Saunders, Lizzie Gray, and Marc Butler received 8th place out of 21 teams. Daniel Pena received 8th place overall in the 7th grade division for Science. Chance Saunders received 17th place overall in the 8th grade division.
The coaches, Larry Hopple, Dan Huskerson, and Carola Martin, wish to thank members of the community that supported TMSCA in the State event: Lions Club, Sweetwater Jaycees, Ludlum Measurements, and Sweetwater Middle School. These funds allowed the students to experience an educational and fun trip. Sweetwater Middle School and the sponsors are so proud of all the students that particpated this past year. -- Carola Martin
