From Southeast students:
Mandi Ligon from the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service visited Mrs. Houston's first grade class. She brought soil from Maryneal, Roscoe, and Sweetwater as well as a pure clay that she had. She told our class about what conservation was, and how it takes 500 years to make one inch of soil on the ground. She also told us the difference between "Dirty Dirt" and "Super Soil." She showed us how the clay did not allow water to pass through it and how most of our "tanks" are made on the clay. She told us that we can trace everything we eat back to the soil, except FISH! We enjoyed having her in our classroom VERY much! She even let us play in the mud!!!
