Sweetwater Strong! That is the 2013-2014 motto for Sweetwater ISD. This is meant to be about Sweetwater, the school district, the community and the people. We all join together, we all support each other and we all strive for the best for everyone.
We are off to a great start! We were given our campus and District ratings over the summer and SISD was ranked at the top for all campuses and the District. Our student accountability scores were very good. The rigor has increased and both students and teachers have responded positively.
Some of the new things happening at SISD this year are in response to parent and community requests. We make it a priority to listen to and work with the community.
J P Cowen Early Childhood Campus serves over 150 young students ages 0-5. This campus plays a vital role in the preparation and school readiness. The Early Head Start program is one of very few in the State located within a School District.
The “First Move” program is about teaching second and third graders the game of Chess. As students learn this game, they will use several high-level thinking skills. Along with these critical thinking skills, they will also learn sportsmanship and leadership. They will experience the spirit of competition and acquire a life-long skill. East Ridge invites you to share your time and mentor students in the skills of this game. We are looking for a great year at East Ridge of learning and fun.
Southeast Elementary will also be offering some advanced academic lessons for those students and parents that would like to participate. This campus saw many physical improvements including some great improvements to the School Stage and a safety fence completed around the playground. Thanks to the PTO for all their help and what they do for our students.
Sweetwater Intermediate is gearing up for another great year. The famous SIS Jump Rope team will once again perform for several colleges and pro sporting events. They will continue their tradition of Academic Excellence. The Robotics and Imagination Destination teams will compete again giving students opportunities to excel beyond the classroom.
SMS is again offering the very popular noon-time electives. Students get to choose an area of interest they enjoy and learn more about it. The Middle School is continuing its facelift with many internal and external improvements. The entire exterior will be painted this fall.
The exciting news at Sweetwater High School came this summer when the School Board announced that it will pay for all Dual Credit tuition for classes taken at Western Texas College and TSTC. The addition of new, comfortable, sleek travel busses will allow our students to travel to their events and competitions the safest way possible.
The District-wide 1:1 iPad initiative continues with all students in grades 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10, receiving iPads and classroom instruction with this and many other forms of technology. The elementaries are adding classroom sets for student use also. This 1:1 technology will prepare our students to compete in the global environment in which we live.
Everything SISD does is for the success of our students. All of it will compliment what takes place with the teachers in the classroom. None of it can replace good classroom instruction and definitely nothing can replace good parenting and parent interest in their children’s education.
We want to work together to enable your child to be the best, to make SISD the best and to make Sweetwater Strong!
