SWEETWATER - Sweetwater High School Faculty and Staff announced today that they will host the November Sweetwater and Nolan County Chamber of Commerce Coffee on November 2, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. The Chamber is involved with recruiting and promoting new and existing business in Sweetwater. It serves as a resource for demographic information to support relocation activities as well as identification of needs for additional growth in Sweetwater and the surrounding area.
The Coffee will be hosted by faculty, staff, and students and located in the high school cafeteria. During the coffee community members, school employees, business leaders, and guest welcome new community and Chamber members. For the November meeting, high school students will help serve and be available to answer questions about how Sweetwater High School is working to become the premier high school in the Big Country.
"I'm involved in a lot of activities," said SHS Junior Trent Hicks. "Sweetwater High School is premier because they want to make sure that each student has a club or activity, including athletics, where they can experience instruction during non-school hours. Also, the school has a variety of general education and advanced classes that give students choices for classes they want to take. For me, it's all about academics like AP Chemistry, College Algebra, Dual Credit English, and Dual Credit U.S. History." In his spare time, Trent tutors underclassmen in mathematics and is one of the Drum Majors in the SHS Band. "I love participating in band because our display of school spirit supports other programs such as football, volleyball, and robotics... to name a few."
During the Coffee, Paula Ordway and Tina Melendez, who are both teachers at the high school, will highlight how the campus aligns its vision and goals to the SISD Mission and Vision. Moreover, they will discuss how they build positive and appropriate relationships with students through the use of Capturing Kids Hearts strategies.
Sweetwater High School and the Sweetwater and Nolan County Chamber of Commerce invite all Chamber Members and Sweetwater citizens to participate in the November Chamber Coffee to be held at SHS on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Join the high school as they discuss their plan to become the premier high school in the Big Country.
