The first Discover Summer Fest will occur at the SHS Track on Saturday, May 6th from 11:00 until 1:00. This fun filled activity is supported and sponsored by the Sweetwater ISD SHAC (School Health Advisory Council). This council includes various enthusiastic parents and community members along with school employees such as PE Teachers, School Nurses, Counselors, Administrators and SHS student representatives.
The Discover Summer Fest Committee members are Tammi Stafford, Jaci Callan, Carla Lambert, Monica Mendoza, Amanda Martinez and Kathy Smartt.
The purpose of Discover Summer Fest will be to promote all the various activities available during the summer for our local kids and families. There is no charge for having a booth, but interested vendors are asked to commit so plans can be made. This would be a time for churches to communicate their dates for Vacation Bible School, Music Camp, Youth Camps, etc. School camps can share the dates for Drama Camp, Cheer Camp, Jump Rope, Basketball, Football, Soccer, etc. Local businesses such as Tae Kwon Do, Rolling Plains Community Wellness Center, Dance, Piano, etc. are encouraged to have a booth with information and dates. There will also be a booth for information on registration for Early Childhood, Pre-K and Kindergarten along with school supply lists for older grades. Hopefully, booths will not only provide information but a fun activity/demonstration and/or freebies for the kids.
Although there is no charge for having a booth or visiting the booths, plans are in the works to have food trucks and refreshments for sale in the parking lot adjacent to the track. Any vendors, clubs and/or PTO's are encouraged to participate.
If interested in having an informational/fun booth and/or refreshment stand at the Discover Summer Fest, contact Kathy Smartt or Tammi Stafford at (325) 235-8601.
