Superintendent Dr. George McFarland named Melinda McCarty as the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction for Sweetwater ISD at a specially called board meeting held on Monday, July 24th at the Sweetwater ISD Board Room.  Mrs. McCarty holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Southern Methodist University and a Master of Education Administration from Sul Ross State University. She was most recently Executive Director of Academics for Texas Leadership Charter Academy with campuses in San Angelo, Midland, Arlington and Abilene.

McCarty taught mathematics at Abilene High School, was an Assistant Principal and Instructional Specialist in Abilene ISD, a superintendent intern for Wylie ISD, and a campus principal for Texas Leadership Charter Academy.  She holds Elementary, Special Education, Principal and Superintendent certifications, and is completing a Fellowship in Curriculum Leadership from Texas Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.

A native of Abilene, McCarty’s family has strong ties to Sweetwater, as several of her aunts and uncles graduated from Sweetwater High School, and some family still lives in the area.   “Mrs. McCarty brings an enormous amount of knowledge in the areas of curriculum and instruction to the district, as well as an incredible work ethic that will help propel Sweetwater ISD into the upper echelon of schools in academic performance in this region,” Dr. McFarland said.  “In addition, having worked with her previously in an administrative capacity, I know she values the importance that I place on putting students first in everything that we do here in the district,” he added.

Of her new role, McCarty said, “The focus on purpose, people and pride will allow us to center everything we do on making the educational experience the best for the children of Sweetwater. I look forward to forging relationships with the students, educators and citizens of Sweetwater as we build on the strong traditions already established here, and as we continue to grow the level of Pride there is in being a Mustang!”
