Sweetwater ISD Offers Gifted Education Program

    Sweetwater ISD conducts a program for students with above average potential in academic and creative-productive thinking skills in grades K-12. This gifted education program is designed to challenge students to accelerate above and beyond the regular school curriculum.

     Nominations will be taken from November 1, 2013 to November 25, 2013.  Anyone wishing to nominate a student believed to be an intellectually or creatively gifted learner is encouraged to come by the appropriate campus office and complete the necessary forms. Those students nominated will go through a screening procedure that requires special testing. At the time of nomination, parents will be requested to grant permission for this testing.

You Miss School – You Miss Out Contest

       

Student Success is directly related to regular school attendance. 

Sweetwater ISD students can raise awareness of the importance of

regular school attendance and win great prizes by entering the

2013 You Miss School – You Miss Out poster, essay and video contest.

 

Entry Opportunities:

Poster – Create a poster (18”x12” – half a poster board size)

Essay – A one page expository essay

Video – One minute video

Every student is eligible to enter in all three categories!  The deadline for entries to your campus principal is Monday, December 2nd.   Campus winners will be announced on Friday, December 6th and sent to the Administration Building for District level competition.

Campus winners will be featured on the SISD website and in the Sweetwater Reporter.  In addition, District winners will be featured on KXOX and honored at the SISD School Board Meeting.

Prizes include a $100 gift card to the District Winner in each of the three categories.  It will be the winners’ choice if the card is for I-Tunes or Wal-mart.   Group entries are allowable but the gift will be split equally among the group.

Patti Wilson Named Southeast's STAR Staff of the Week

Southeast Principal Peggy Elliott gave the campus STAR Staff of the Week award to Patti Wilson this past Friday. According to Elliott, "Mrs. Wilson is an awesome teacher and has implemented the use of many iPad Apps in her classroom."

Yarborough Named Southeast's STAR Staff of the Week

Mrs. LaVerne Yarborough was named the 'STAR Staff of the Week' at Southeast Elementary. According to Principal Peggy Elliott,  "Mrs. Yarborough is a super PE teacher - teaching students about Physical Fitness, Health and Nutrition and Character."

Billy Haywood Johnson Receives SISD Funderwear Award

The last Funderwear recipients, the Sweetwater Middle School Team, recently passed on the Funderwear award to Billy Johnson also known as Haywood.

Haywood is appreciated and respected by everyone that comes in contact with him at the Fieldhouse. He goes above and beyond while bringing joy to everyone associated with him.  He is SWEETWATER STRONG.

Mr. Pittman has said, “Funderwear is given to staff members that have gone above and beyond, shown a great attitude, and exemplify the spirit we want to shine in SISD.”

Free Characteristics of Autism in Young Children Workshop

A free workshop for parents, caregivers, and teachers working with young children ages 3, 4, and 5 is being presented at Sweetwater High School's HUB Room (Corner of Crane and Ragland Streets) on November 21st from 5:15 to 7:30pm. 

To register for this workshop or to get more information, call the WCTSSA Special Education Services Department at (325) 235-8621 between the hours of 8am and 4:15pm.

Christine Gilbert Named Southeast 'STAR' of the Week

Southeast Elementary Principal Peggy Elliott announced today that Christine Gilbert was given the campus 'STAR' of the Week award. According to Mrs. Elliott, "Christine plays an important part in the STARS program at Southeast. At Southeast, STAR stands for 'Students Totally Achieving Real Success'"

SHS Big Red Mustang Band Earns Division I Ratings

The Sweetwater High School Big Red Mustang Band performed at the Big Country Marching Festival this week. The group received a Division I rating from the judges and also won top awards for Best Color Guard and Best Percussion.
