Sweetwater ISD Offers Gifted Education to Students

Sweetwater ISD conducts a program for students with above average potential in academic and creative-productive thinking skills in grades K-12. This gifted education program is designed to challenge students to accelerate above and beyond the regular school curriculum.

Nominations will be taken from November 1, 2014 to November 24, 2014.  Anyone wishing to nominate a student believed to be an intellectually or creatively gifted learner is encouraged to come by the appropriate campus office and complete the necessary forms. Those students nominated will go through a screening procedure that requires special testing. At the time of nomination, parents will be requested to grant permission for this testing.

Sweetwater ISD will hold a public meeting at 5:30 p.m. October 20, 2014 at the Administration Office, 207 Musgrove St, Sweetwater, TX


The purpose of this meeting is to discuss Sweetwater ISD’s rating on the state’s financial accountability system.

East Ridge's Freddie Saldivar Receives Funderwear Award

Freddie Saldivar was nominated by his principal at East Ridge Elementary, Vicki Mayberry, for the Funderwear Award.  Ms. Mayberry stated, "Freddie is a great candidate. He does everything from planting flowers to selling ice cream in the cafeteria, as well as keeping the building and grounds clean as a pin...and all with a great attitude and Sweetwater Strong sense of pride."

Mr. Pittman said, “Funderwear is given to staff members that have gone above and beyond, shown a great attitude, and exemplify the spirit we want to shine in SISD.”

People like Freddie make us Sweetwater Strong...Stronger Than Ever!  Congratulations Freddie!

Antolin Garza from AAIM Consulting Speaks to SISD

Pictured below is Mr. Antolin Garza, from AAIM Consulting, presenting at Southeast Elementary about the parent and child relationship and the impact it has on a child's educational experience.  This opportunity was provided by the Region 14 Education Service Center and over 60 parents took advantage of hearing his message that was given four times in Sweetwater on Monday.  According to Kathy Smartt, SISD Assistant Superintendent, "His message was engaging, entertaining and meaningful."

SISD White Fleet Driver Mandatory Training Announced

The dates and times for the SISD White Fleet Driver Training will be as follows, unless there is a conflict with scheduling the HUB.

All employees of SISD who will be using a suburban, equinox, car or the 14 passenger Activity bus and do not have a Texas CDL license, are required by Local policy to attend this training.

Session #3 Tuesday September 23rd 5:30 – 6:15 pm

Session #4 Tues September 23rd 6:30 – 7:15 pm

Session # 5 Thurs September 25th 5:00 – 5:45 pm

Session #6 Thurs September 25th 6:00 – 6:15 pm (if needed)

We are requesting that participants let us know which session they will attend so that we can prepare for the size of each session.

Mrs. Amy Cortez Chosen Texas Region 14 Teacher of the Year

Mrs. Amy Cortez has been chosen as Region 14 Elementary Teacher of the Year receiving the honor at Region 14 Road Show at Colorado City High School. Mrs. Cortez teaches Kindergarten at Southeast Elementary in Sweetwater. Pictured is Mrs. Cortez with her husband, Tony and sons Ethan and Ian.
