Sweetwater Intermediate's Destination Imagination Teams Win Awards

The fourth and fifth grade SEEK students from SIS competed at the Destination Imagination tournament in Lubbock. The Scientific team earned the Da Vinci award for taking a unique approach to a solution and outstanding creativity. The fourth grade engineering team was awarded third place. The fifth grade engineering team was awarded second place and the Renaissance award for outstanding skill in engineering and design.

SHS Students Extend Crazy Sock Day Participation to High School

Due to the press coverage that J.P. Cowen and Southeast Elementary Schools received about their Crazy Sock Day earlier in the week, students asked why high school couldn't have a Crazy Sock Day also.  

On Friday, March 3rd, to help usher in spring and have a little bit a fun, SHS hosted its first High School Crazy Sock Day.  Sock Day was added as a PBIS Tier I activity to assist the school develop positive experiences for all students. Students, teachers, and administrators participated with student top prizes going to Serena Flores (12), Kaitlyn Foster (12), Charity Thompson (10), Chris Renfro (9), and an honorable mention to Anastasia White (10).  

Faculty and staff who were voted on by students as top participants included Librarian Pam Lawrence, Substitute Teacher Mary Carr, and Social Studies Teacher/Department Head Deana Gray.  All together more that 20% of students and 25% of faculty and staff participated.

Tim Hampton Receives the Sweetwater ISD 'Funderwear Award'

Tim was nominated by many groups and campuses. He is definitely an asset to SISD and appreciated by everyone. He and many recently went way above and beyond to prepare the new facilities for J.P. Cowen and he is 'the go to guy' for many.

Mr. Pittman said, “Funderwear is given to staff members that have gone above and beyond, shown a great attitude, and exemplify the spirit we want to shine in SISD.”

People like Tim make us Sweetwater Strong!

Sweetwater ISD School Board Approves the Hiring of Coach Ben McGehee

New Sweetwater ISD Athletic Director Ben McGehee, and his wife Leslie, with his first Mustang cap following his official approval at last night's School Board Meeting. Good things are happening and Coach McGehee is eager and obviously ready to roll! #sweetwaterstrong #wearesweetwater #gobigred
 

SISD Names Ben McGehee as Finalist for Athletic Director & Head Football Coach

SISD Superintendent Terry Pittman announced today that Ben McGehee, Associate Head Coach at Temple ISD, has been named the finalist for the Sweetwater ISD Athletic Director / Head Football Coach position.

A graduate of Texas Tech University, Coach McGehee helped lead Temple High School to two State Football Finals in the last three years which also included 37 victories and three district championships.

Ben McGehee is married and has two young children. A welcome reception is planned for him and his family in the Sweetwater High School Library on March 1st starting at 9am. Everyone is invited to attend.
