Feedback & Communication

Feedback supports students in identifying where they are in the learning process, defining where they need to go, and outlining a pathway for students to know how to get there.  Feedback provided between students, parents/guardians, and teachers will support the students optimum learning environment by:

  • Using aligned success criteria, Level-up chart, rubrics, checklists, and progressions with authentic student work.

  • Utilizing multiple modes of communication:

  • Calendar tool (in Google Classroom)

  • Email tool (in Google Classroom)

  • Level Up Charts (sent home with report cards)

  • Remind 101

  • Facebook

  • School Website

  • Using feedback cycles through digital features such as:

    • Direct virtual support through Zoom/Google Meets

    • Voice or video recordings on assignments and lectures

  • Provide feedback and responses to all types of assessments (including discussion posts, etc.)

  • Plan targeted, small group instruction to respond to misconceptions as identified on student Level-Up Charts and daily assignments
  • Data Days are specifically designed days built into the District Calendar at the end of grading periods for teachers and staff to analyze data and make appropriate plans for instruction.  Teachers will analyze student performance data for each individual student, class, and campus. Teachers will enter new common assessment grades and/or istation data into each Student’s Level Up Chart prior to the Data Day meeting scheduled with the campus principal or principal’s designee. During the Data day meeting the principal or designee will work with the teacher using the Common Assessment Rubric and Level-Up Chart Rubric to analyze student performance and develop appropriate action steps for each individual student using a tiered instructional plan to support every student for the next grading period. The action plan is documented on a student’s Level-up chart notes section. The completed Level-Up Chart shall be communicated with each student's parent/guardian and documentation received back confirming receipt and acknowledgement of the actions plan by the parent/guardian.

Principal Expectations. Principals are the instructional leaders of their campus. Principals will work to provide planning support, guidance, and leadership by:

    • Schedule Data Day Meetings with all campus Teachers and, as needed, other staff.

    • Provide staff and SISD administration a copy of the data day schedule.

    • Monitor instruction effectiveness by evaluating student, classroom, and campus performance data.

    • Analyze the reliability and validity of common assessments using the Common Assessment Rubric.

    • Plan individualized interventions, enrichments, and appropriate future actions for each student, class, grade level, and campus with Teachers and staff.

    • Analyze the fidelity of Level-Up charts and action plans documented on Student Level-Up Charts using the Level-Up Chart Rubric.

    • Update District Board Report Sheet with current performance data and prepare report for the next school board meeting.

    • Update the Teacher Level-Up Chart (TIA SHEET) for each teacher.
  • Report cards with each student’s performance and absences in each class or subject are issued at least once every 6 weeks. At the end of the first three weeks of a grading period, parents will receive a progress report if their child’s performance in any course/subject area  is near or below 70 or is below the expected level of performance. If a student receives a grade lower than 70 in any class or subject at the end of a grading period, the parent will be asked to schedule a conference with the teacher.
