Sweetwater ISD provides a comprehensive program for students with disabilities and is dedicated to ensuring that all children with disabilities have available to them a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) that emphasizes special education and related services designed to meet each student’s unique needs. A continuum of services and supports is available across the district. Emphasis is placed on providing programs designed to include successful participation and progress in the general curriculum in the least restrictive environment and to prepare the children for employment and independent living after graduation. 

Sweetwater ISD and eight other school districts are members of the West Central Texas Shared Services Arrangement (WCTSSA). This arrangement allows Sweetwater ISD and the eight other school districts located in this rural West Texas area to share personnel and services, which in turn facilitates in meeting the needs of a variety of students. WCTSSA offices are located in the Sweetwater Administration Building. WCTSSA Belief Statements:
We believe that students with disabilities:
  • shall be expected to learn and achieve to the same degree as their nondisabled peers;.
  • are entitled to a quality education that is equivalent to that offered to nondisabled students;.
  • have the inherent right to be considered and included in all campus decisions and activities and be treated with the same respect as any other student;.
  • shall receive instruction in general education classes to the extent appropriate facilitated by a comprehensive support system of accommodations, modifications, supplemental aids, and services designed to recognize unique student needs and abilities;.
  • shall have access to optimal technology, instructional materials, and adaptive equipment.
  • shall be educated by well prepared, sensitive general and special education teachers and administrators trained in research-based instructional strategies to meet the needs of all students;.
  • shall feel good about themselves and know that they are valued in their educational environment;.
  • shall become productive, contributing members of society;.
  • shall be instructed in multiple classroom and community settings which are safe, accessible, and stimulating;.
  • shall have access to a full continuum of services including individualized modifications, accommodations, instructional techniques, and materials in an appropriate curriculum; and.
  • shall learn to work in a competitive world-wide marketplace and be prepared to pursue secondary education or occupational opportunities.
