Sweetwater ISD is proud to announce that Mr. Reggy Spencer has been named the Lone Finalist for the district’s superintendent position, following a unanimous vote at the July meeting of the Board of Trustees.
Mr. Spencer has served as Interim Superintendent since March 2025, quickly establishing trust and collaboration across the district. A native of Roby, Mr. Spencer brings 28 years of experience in Texas education. His career includes roles spanning teacher, principal, and superintendent, all within Region 14. Rooted in the values of West Texas, his family includes his wife, Sage and five children.
Prior to joining Sweetwater ISD, Mr. Spencer served as Superintendent of Colorado ISD in Colorado City for over 12 years. Initiatives throughout his tenure included a $30 million bond project that modernized and consolidated district facilities into a secure Pre-K through 8th-grade campus, as well as a $5 million grant focused on college and career readiness. His leadership earned him a nomination for Texas Superintendent of the Year in 2015, where he finished among the top 5 finalists.
As interim leader, Mr. Spencer has overseen key elements of Sweetwater’s current bond projects, including the construction of a new CTE center and gymnasium. He has already made a meaningful impact by supporting staff and student-centered planning for the upcoming school year.
In accordance with Texas law, a 21-day waiting period is required before the Board can take final action. The Board anticipates confirming Mr. Spencer’s appointment as Superintendent in early August.
Sweetwater ISD is excited about this next chapter and looks forward to continuing its work under Mr. Spencer’s proven and principled leadership.
