A graduate of Abilene Christian University, Russell served in communities including San Saba, Albany, Mineral Wells, Rotan, Kermit, Hamlin (twice), and for the past 4 years right here in Sweetwater. As Athletic Director and Head Football Coach, he led with integrity, passion, and a commitment to shaping champions both on and off the field. Coach Lucas has inspired countless students through his example of perseverance, discipline, and heart. A 1996 graduate of the University of Houston–Clear Lake, Larry began his teaching career with us that same year and has been an inspiring presence ever since. His classroom has been a place not only of learning but of encouragement, mentorship, and heart. Larry's dedication, compassion, and deep investment in the lives of his students have left a lasting legacy. While we will miss him greatly, we are excited for his next adventure—snorkeling and traveling through Europe!
